Traveling and Health Insurance

Frequent travelers need to make sure that they are including health insurance as one of their standard expenses. International travelers should pay special attention to this type of insurance, whether they are traveling for fun or business. It may seem that business travelers are safely tucked away in office buildings and convention centers, but food poisoning, viruses and parasites are common in many countries and there is always the risk of falls and other injuries that would require medical attention.

There are a number of different policies available to travelers depending on the type of travel and length of stay. Policies for visitor insurance will also take into account trips that involve multiple countries. As with any type of health insurance, the age, gender and overall health of the policy holder will also be factors. Most policies will include treatment and emergency services. Extended visits, such as for study abroad programs and individuals working in foreign countries, may include preventative services and even mental health. Travelers should make sure that any policy covers medical evacuation in case of severe injury or illness.
